More than a wall

A retaining wall does real structural work. It holds back the lateral pressure of soil so a slope stays put, keeps a terrace level, and protects everything downhill from washouts and settling.

That pressure is constant, and it only gets worse when water gets involved. We design every wall to handle the load behind it, with the right footing, steel reinforcement, and a drainage system that moves water away instead of letting it build up and push the wall over. On a property with grade changes, a well-built wall also gives you flat, usable space you did not have before.

  • Engineered to resist lateral soil pressure
  • Built-in drainage to prevent wall failure
  • Erosion control on slopes and grade changes
  • Terracing that creates flat, usable yard

What we build

Retaining wall solutions

Erosion control walls

Walls that lock a slope in place and stop the soil displacement that undermines foundations, patios, and driveways over time.

Terraced & tiered walls

Stepped walls that carve a steep yard into level terraces, adding planting space and turning unusable grade into real outdoor living area.

Structural load-bearing walls

Heavily reinforced walls for tall grade changes or commercial sites, engineered to carry serious lateral load without bowing or cracking.

Decorative retaining walls

Walls with stamped, stained, or textured faces that hold back soil while complementing your landscaping and architecture.

Drainage-integrated walls

Walls built with weep holes, gravel backfill, and drainage so water never collects behind the structure and forces it to fail.

Commercial & site walls

Retaining and site walls for parking areas, pads, and developments, built to plan and to the load the site demands.

How we build it

Our retaining wall process

Every retaining wall starts with what is behind it. Here is what we do from the first visit to a finished, inspected wall.

Step 01

Site and soil assessment

We walk the grade with you, check the soil type, look at drainage patterns, and measure the load sitting above the planned wall. Desert soils in the Valley vary, and that assessment shapes the design.

Step 02

Excavation and footing prep

We dig to the correct depth for a stable footing, factoring in wall height and soil conditions. A shallow footing on expansive desert soil is one of the most common reasons walls fail years later.

Step 03

Drainage system installation

Before the footing goes in, we set the drainage plan. Gravel backfill zone, perforated drain pipe, and weep hole placement are established at this stage, not added as an afterthought once the wall is up.

Step 04

Footing pour and rebar placement

We pour a properly sized concrete footing and set vertical rebar dowels that tie into the wall above. This connection is what keeps the wall from tipping or sliding under lateral load.

Step 05

Form, reinforce, and pour

Forms go up on both sides, horizontal rebar ties into the vertical dowels, and we pour concrete in lifts to ensure consistent strength through the full wall height. Forms come down after the concrete cures.

Step 06

Backfill, finish, and cleanup

Backfill goes behind the wall in compacted lifts to avoid pushing fresh concrete. Any decorative finish is applied at this stage, and the site is cleaned before we leave.

Cost guide

What does a concrete retaining wall cost in Las Vegas?

Poured concrete retaining walls typically run $30 to $40 per square foot of wall face in the Las Vegas market. A wall 30 inches high and 20 feet long works out to roughly $1,500 to $2,000 at that range. Here is what moves the number.

Wall height and length

Taller walls need deeper footings, more rebar, and more concrete. Every additional foot of height raises the engineering demands, not just the material volume.

Decorative stamped finish

A stamped texture or pattern on the wall face adds roughly $5 to $15 per square foot above the base concrete cost. Stone and brick patterns are popular on residential projects in the Valley.

Stone or brick veneer

Applying a stone or brick veneer to the face adds $5 to $25 per square foot depending on the material and pattern complexity. Veneered walls look like full masonry at a fraction of the structural weight.

Site conditions and access

Rocky ground, limited equipment access, and steep approaches all add labor. Drainage issues that need correcting before the wall can go up are also part of the scope when present.

These are typical Las Vegas market ranges. Your exact cost depends on your site. We give you a firm price after a free on-site visit. Get your free estimate

Why Centurion

The wall is only as good as the prep behind it

Most retaining walls that fail were doomed before the first block went down. We start with a real site analysis, set a proper foundation, run high-quality rebar through the wall, and engineer drainage so water pressure never gets a chance to build. That is how a wall stays standing for decades.

  • 30+ years of concrete and masonry in the Valley
  • Site analysis that flags problems before the pour
  • Waterproofing and drainage on every wall

Permits and code

Retaining walls and Clark County permit requirements

In the Las Vegas Valley, concrete retaining walls commonly require a building permit once they pass a certain height. The exact trigger varies by jurisdiction. Your address could fall under the City of Las Vegas, Clark County, the City of Henderson, or the City of North Las Vegas, and each sets its own rules. Walls that carry a surcharge, meaning a driveway, structure, or slope sits above the wall, are often held to a stricter standard and may require engineered plans.

Skipping a required permit creates real risk. Unpermitted work can stall a property sale, trigger fines, or require tear-out if the jurisdiction finds the work later. We know the permitting requirements across the Valley, pull the permit under the proper license where it is needed, schedule the inspections, and build to the standard the inspector expects. You get a wall that is on record and clean if you ever sell.

Retaining wall FAQ

How does the Las Vegas climate affect a retaining wall?

Hard rain events and dry, shifting desert soil are the real test for a wall here. Water builds pressure behind a poorly drained wall and the soil moves with the seasons. We design for both with proper drainage and reinforcement so the wall handles our conditions instead of fighting them.

Why is drainage so important on a retaining wall?

Water trapped behind a wall is the number one reason retaining walls fail. It adds enormous hydrostatic pressure that the wall was not built to carry. We include weep holes, gravel backfill, and drainage paths so water moves through and away rather than pushing against the structure.

Can a retaining wall be both functional and attractive?

Absolutely. We build walls that do the structural work and look the part, with stamped textures, integral color, or stained faces that tie into your landscaping. A retaining wall can be a feature of the yard, not just a utility.

Do I need a permit for a retaining wall in Las Vegas?

Walls above a certain height, or walls that carry a surcharge load such as a driveway or structure sitting above them, typically require a permit and may need engineered plans. The threshold varies by jurisdiction. We are familiar with local requirements, handle the permitting where it applies, and build to code so the wall passes inspection.

How long does a concrete retaining wall last?

A properly engineered and drained concrete wall lasts for decades with minimal upkeep. The key is the work behind the face: a solid footing, steel reinforcement, and drainage. Get those right and the wall will outlast almost everything else on the property.

What does a concrete retaining wall cost in Las Vegas?

Poured concrete retaining walls typically run $30 to $40 per square foot of wall face in the Las Vegas market. A decorative stamped finish adds $5 to $15 per square foot. Stone or brick veneer adds $5 to $25 per square foot. Wall height, length, site conditions, and drainage needs all affect the final number. We give you a firm price after a free on-site visit.

How long does it take to build a retaining wall?

A standard residential retaining wall typically takes three to seven days from excavation to cleanup. Tiered projects, taller walls, or sites with difficult access take longer. We give you a realistic timeline at the estimate stage so there are no surprises mid-project.

Can I get a stamped or textured finish on a concrete retaining wall?

Yes. We can stamp the face of a poured concrete wall to resemble cut stone, brick, or natural rock. Integral color and surface stains are also options. The finish gets applied while the concrete is still workable, so we plan for it from the start rather than trying to add it later.
